THE MISSING GENERATION’S New York Premiere – presented by The Joyce Theater! With these performances, Sean Dorsey will become the first US transgender artist ever presented by the Joyce Theater.
THE MISSING GENERATION is a powerful dance-theater work that gives voice to longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic. The show is a love letter to a forgotten generation of transgender and LGBTQ survivors – people who witnessed and experienced the loss of part of an entire generation to AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s.
Sean Dorsey created the work over a 2-year period after recording 75 hours of oral history interviews with transgender and LGBTQ survivors of the early AIDS epidemic, conducting extensive archival research, and hosting LGBTQ Community Residencies in 6 cities across the US.
