Fresh Meat Productions is proud to co-sponsor a special program at the 32nd annual Frameline Film Festival, featuring two films: Simply Love and Envisioning Justice: The Journey of a Transgendered Woman.

Simply Love (director Eveline van Dijck): In the time since Marcel and Marijke were teenage sweethearts, they’ve married and raised families. And Marcel has become Marcella. Simply Love is the surprising sequel to Eveline van Dijck’s 1993 documentary A Change of View, which followed Marcel during his transition to Marcella. Now, 15 years later, when Marijke seeks out Marcel after a forty-year absence, there is no question that the affections they enjoyed in 1964 are just as vital today, regardless of the changes that have intervened. The reunited couple decides to recommit to their relationship, move in together, meet each other’s families and plan for marriage. They encounter some obstacles along the way, but van Dijck respectfully skates on the edges of the lovers’ lives, allowing us to empathize and endure the troubles along with them. And though their remarkable story is the sort inspired by fairytales, their circumstances are decidedly true-to-life. 50 minutes running time. Dutch with English subtitles.

Envisioning Justice: The Journey of a Transgendered Woman (director Larry Tung) is an engaging portrait of Pauline Park, transnational and transgender activist extraordinaire, who started her life’s journey as a Korean orphan raised by white, Lutheran parents in Wisconsin. Combining demonstrations of Park’s activism with interviews with her longtime friends, director Larry Tung offers a rare glimpse into the life of a model activist and academic in the community.

Presented by Frameline, co-sponsored by Fresh Meat Productions and the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.
