In San Francisco for ONE WEEKEND ONLY as part of a 20-city tour! Danced with guts and precision and deep humanity, THE MISSING GENERATION is a powerful dance-theater production based on oral history interviews with longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic.
The show is a love letter to a forgotten generation – people who experienced the loss of part of an entire generation of trans, gay, bisexual and queer people during the early epidemic.
Sean Dorsey created the work over a 2-year period by recording oral history interviews with trans and LGBT longtime survivors and hosting LGBT Community Residencies in cities across the US.
THE MISSING GENERATION features full-throttle dance, luscious partnering, intimate storytelling and theater – performed by an award-winning, multi-generational ensemble of dancers: Sean Dorsey, Brian Fisher, ArVejon A. Jones and Nol Simonse.
Dorsey recorded 75 hours of oral history interviews and spent over 500 hours building a lush, multi-layered soundscore. THE MISSING GENERATION’s soundscore was recently awarded an Isadora Duncan Dance Award and features excerpts of these oral histories with original music by Alex Kelly, Jesse Olsen Bay, Ben Kessler and Jeffrey Alphonsus Mooney.
Sean Dorsey is an award-winning transgender and queer choreographer who has toured his work to 26 cities across the US.
From 2015-2017, THE MISSING GENERATION will tour to 20 cities across the US during week-long Community Residencies that will feature community conversations; master classes; free trans-friendly dance workshops; “Dance Your Story” self-expression workshops for LGBTQ people and people living with HIV/AIDS; and other custom-designed residency activities.
