Fresh Meat Productions asked the 2019 Fresh Meat Festival artists some questions. Read what they had to say in their own words!
Jahaira Fajardo and Angelica Amor Medina
In 2014, Jahaira Fajardo and Angelica Medina, Directors of In Lak’ech Dance Academy, met and fell in love on the dance floor. They share an immense passion for dance, and decided to grow as dance partners. In 2017, they started the first Queer & Trans, Salsa & Bachata dance company.
Q: Describe what you will be performing for us at the FRESH MEAT FESTIVAL.
A: We will be performing a two minute Bachata dance choreography.
Q: Why is it important to have a festival that centers trans and queer performance?
A: We deserve to have an event that celebrates us in our totality. A space where we as artists get to proudly show ourselves, and our art in a celebrated community.
Q: What’s one thing you wish for trans and queer communities?
A: I wish that we can continue to heal through Art.
Q: Who are some of your artistic inspirations?
A: Chavela Vargas, Frida Kahlo, Wu Tang Clan, Sean Dorsey.
