As this year comes to a close, the call to dream and move toward a shared future of liberation feels loud, deep and clear.
Our interconnectedness is our guide. Our intersectionality is a site of change. We each have an important place on this planet and a role in shaping a liberated Future.
The path to liberation is inherently trans and queer — because it requires us to imagine something that doesn’t yet exist, against all odds. Here‘s what Fresh Meat Productions imagined into existence this year:
WE INVEST IN ARTISTS as AGENTS OF CHANGE
- We made direct PAYMENTS to over 100 trans/nonbinary/queer artists!
- We supported BIPOC trans/nonbinary/queer artists to create & share new work– and awarded 21 community-nominated Seed Commission grants and 6 FRESH WORKS! Commissions!
- We presented the 22nd annual FRESH MEAT FESTIVAL with 30+ trans and queer artists, back in-person for the first time in 3 years with 6 powerful, site-specific programs!
WE MAKE TRANS HISTORY
- Artistic Director Sean Dorsey won an EMMY AWARD for the short film “Sean Dorsey Dance: Dreaming Trans & Queer Futures” (directed by Lindsay Gauthier, produced by KQED)!
WE CREATE CHANGE ACROSS THE NATION (& beyond!)
- Defying escalating anti-trans hatred, Sean Dorsey Dance toured ‘The Lost Art Of Dreaming’ to: Seattle, Maui, Washington DC, Reston, Martha’s Vineyard, Durham, San Francisco, Atlanta and Stockholm, Sweden.
- In each of these 9 cities, we offered FREE trans-supportive movement classes, workshops, and community conversations.
- We screened Sean Dorsey Dance films at 17 festivals globally (India, Serbia, Greece, England, Australia + US states attacking trans rights like FL, NC and GA).
How do we collectively respond to mounting anti-trans hatred & laws here, while holding our interconnectedness to the struggles for liberation globally?
WE WILL BUILD JOYOUS FUTURES TOGETHER! In 2024 we will:
- Award 6 new FRESH WORKS! Commissions
- Celebrate Sean Dorsey Dance’s 20th ANNIVERSARY Home Season
- Award 20 TRANSfutures Commissions to 20 BIPOC trans/non-binary/Two-Spirit artists
- Present the 23rd annual FRESH MEAT FESTIVAL (June 13-15, 2024) at Z Space
- Offer FREE trans-supportive classes and workshops
- Continue fierce intersectional advocacy for trans equity, and much more!
