Sean Dorsey Dance’s documentary won an Emmy!

We are thrilled to share the incredible news that the film “Sean Dorsey Dance: Dreaming Trans & Queer Futures” just won an EMMY Award! This is huge news for Bay Area dance, and for transgender and queer communities.

As the Bay Times article about this says, this is also a huge “win for transgender visibility and transgender excellence” at a time of national emergency for transgender people.

This visually-stunning short film is a fusion of documentary and dance film, profiling my choreography and activism and lifting up Sean Dorsey Dance’s new project “The Lost Art Of Dreaming”. Directed by Lindsay Gauthier; Produced by KQED + Kelly Whelan + Masha Pershay; Filmed by Elie M. Khadra.

Our documentary film continues to screen at international and national film festivals. We invite you to watch it and share with your loved ones!

The team that won the Emmy are: Director Lindsay Gauthier, Producers Kelly Whalen & Masha Pershay, Choreographer Sean Dorsey, and Cinematography by Elie M. Khadra. The film was created as part of KQED’s #IfCitiesCouldDance series.
